PRESS RELEASE –
07/04/2010 - SCALE SPECIALTIES ANNOUNCES
The latest decal
sheets for
1/300 scale aircraft by Scale Specialties, will have their world debut
and
introduction at Historicon this coming week, These two sheets,
300AC-US-005 and
300AC-US-006, can be viewed at I-94’s booth.
The featured aircraft are the P-51A Mustang (A-36
Apache/Invader), just
released by Raiden Miniatures and the P-51B/C Razorback model.
The
subjects on sheet 005 are fighter-bombers from the 27th and
86th
Fighter Bomber Groups, combat areas being the MTO and southern Europe
and
represent the various markings found in use from 1942 through 1944,
phase out
time for the A-36s. Included among the
fifteen aircraft on the sheet are representatives of the 68th
Tactical Recon Group. Each plane
features national insignia, correct a/c serial number, squadron
identification
letter(s), MTO yellow “quick identification markings” (QIM) bands AND
nose art
as required for the respective airplane.
Samplings of mission markers, both photographic and bombing are
included
to be used at the discretion of the modeler.
Sheet
006 moves northwesterly to 8th A.F. Fighter Command area and
presents markings for razorback P-47s
and P-51B/Cs of the 336th Fighter Squadron, 4th
Fighter
Group. Among the total nine aircraft
shown are five aces’ planes, flying both the P-47 and later the P-51,
again
complete with all necessary markings including nose art.
Of particular note is Don Gentile’s “Shangri
La” with victory scroll and red and white checker board marking on the
nose for
his final P-51. This flamboyant
aircraft resulted in photos designed to inspire the war effort on the
homefront. The eagle motif found on
Gentile’s and Jim Goodson’s 47s and 51s should come as no surprise as
they,
with most of the original pilots of the 336th, transferred
to the
U.S. A.A.F. from the famed RAF “Eagle Squadrons”.
Both
sheets retail for $6.70 each.
